The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, said his administration will not interfere in the selection of traditional rulers in the state.
Mutwang who stated this while presenting a temporary letter of appointment to Nde Jika Golit, after he emerged as the new Ngolong Ngas also assured monarchs of support for the roles they play in their respective Kingdoms
The governor was represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman.
He said, “We adhere strictly to due process in the selection of traditional rulers on the Plateau to honour and preserve the sanctity of royalty.
“The state government did not interfere in the selection of the new Ngas Paramount ruler.
“As a ministry, we align with the vision of this government to create an enabling environment for our people who are ready to select their traditional leaders without interfering with the will and choices of the people.
“This is no doubt the beginning of a new era, and it is our sincere prayer that the Reign of Nde Golit will further foster development, peace, and unity in the Ngas nation and Plateau at large.
“I implore our Ngas brethren to wholeheartedly lend His Royal Highness the support and cooperation required to propel the nation forward.”
In a remark, the new Ngolong Ngas, Nde Golit, stated that his selection was the will of God and thanked the ministry and stakeholders for their efforts in achieving a successful selection process.
Golit also promised to distinguish himself as an agent of unity and development, as well as rule with the fear of God.
The Commissioner also presented the new Ngolong Ngas to the Secretary to the State Government Arch. Samuel Jatau, at the new Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos. The Secretary to the State Government received the new monarch on behalf of the Governor.
Jatau expressed joy that due process was followed in the selection of the first-class traditional ruler.
He congratulated the new Ngolong Ngas and urged him to carry everybody along to unite the Ngas people.
Jatau also assured the new Ngolong Ngas that the state government would do everything humanly possible to make the new Ngolong Ngas reign memorable.
The PUNCH reports that the new Ngolong Ngas Nde Jika Golit was selected by the Pankshin/Kanke Joint Traditional Council on Friday, October 13th, 2023, at Pankshin LGA.
He was the District Head of Garram in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State before his selection.
