notable corporate executive, motivational speaker and author, Ibukunoluwa Awosika, was pleasantly surprised when members of her family, friends and mentees gathered to honour and celebrate her as she marks her 60th birthday.

Unknown to her, a sports centre was built on her behalf at her alma mater, Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos; and it was unveiled on Thursday, December 22, 2022.

The event featured speeches from friends and mentees, a relay race, and the commissioning of the sports centre by the Archbishop of the Lagos Diocese of the Methodist Church, Obafemi Adeleye.

Meanwhile, the relay race was run by four categories of people. Mentees of Awosika took the first lap, while the friends of Awosika and Awosika herself took the second lap, the principal and school’s administrative staff took the third lap, while the students present ran the fourth lap.

After the race, the building was commissioned by the Archbishop, who prayed and cut the ribbon to unveil the signage.

In her speech at the event, a visibly overwhelmed Awosika thanked every group that came together to plan the project and unveiling. She noted that she was passionate about giving, and this was an opportunity to do so.

She said, “For the first time in my life, I am short of words. All I have ever wanted is to live the life God has given to me, and die empty. All I desire is to make it easy for the next person to walk through the path that I walked through, and do greater things than I have done. All I want to do is give because I have always found it more joyful to give.

“I was always too young for the things I did, so it was always a joy to clock a certain age and feel like I was old enough. This really touched my heart in a way I cannot explain. This school taught me many things. I knew I could run, but MGHS nurtured it. I learnt how to debate and win state competitions. I was the valedictorian of my set.”

Some of the guests at the event were Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani, Ndidi Ukaoun, Fela Durotoye, Alero Onosode, Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun, Chichi Nwoko and Yewande Zaccheaus.
