The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has charged the indigenes of the ancient city of Ile-Ife, at home and in the diaspora, to come home and work for the growth and development of the town.
Ooni gave the charge during the grand finale of Ife Day 2022, whose colourful cultural heritage was showcased at Afenworo Square, Enuwa, on Saturday, in Ile-Ife.
He commended the Committee on Ife Day 2022, led by Dr Yomi Layinka, sons and daughters at home and diaspora for their efforts to make the day come to reality.
Ooni acknowledged the sponsors of the programme for their support so far to see the cradle of the Yoruba race progress.
Oba Ogunwusi called on the indigenes whom God has blessed to rise up to assist the less privileged.
He called for the cooperation of the descendants to jointly work for the progress of the ancient city, saying that a tree cannot make a forest.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Ife Day 2022, Dr Yomi Layinka, appreciated God for granting them the grace to witness the occasion.
Layinka said that they’ve deliberated on the vision for 2025 – 2030 on how they wanted Ife to look, saying that Ife should be modernised and commercialised.
He added that the plan of the Committee was to ensure that they optimised Ife to be the tourist centre that would engage human capacity.
