Relief materials donated by Mrs Egbetokun
The President of Police Officers Wives Association, Dr Elizabeth Egbetokun has distributed relief items worth millions of naira to the wives of police officers who were affected by the recent flooding that ravaged Maiduguri and environs in Borno State.
The POWA president during the distribution excercise on Thursday at the state police command, said that she had been restless and relentless at ensuring succour gets to wives of the Police officers who have been affected by the floods.
She added that ever since she heard the news of the devastating flooding that led to the death of over 30 residents and displaced millions, she had been devastated.
In her words, “Ever since I heard about the devastating flood, I have not been myself. Every day, I keep thinking of the officers’ wives that I heard were affected. Today, I’m glad that I have seen them and provided them with some relief materials.”
Egbetokun, who distributed 25kg bags of rice, bed materials, bags of soaps, wrappers, and writing materials for their children, appealed to them to pick up their lives and bounce back to their feet.
Earlier, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, while hosting Mrs Egbetokun in his office, supported the exercise with the sum of N1 million.
The CP who hailed the POWA president for the visit and her humanitarian gesture noted that her efforts will go a long way in bringing succour to the victims and also give them a sense of belonging.
It would be recalled that Arewa PUNCH, on September 10, 2024, had reported the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State and environs.
The report had chronicled the lamentations and cries of the victims of the flood witnessed that ravaged over 70 per cent of the city and caused significant distructions to public and private properties.
