    ENUGU – The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu has suspended all examinations following the untimely death of a student of Peaceland college Enugu.

    It was learnt that the student identifies at Chiamaka Ozoigbondu, was crushed to death inside the school premises on Monday.

    An eye witness account told Daily Independent said one of the graduating students, in a celebratory mood, was driving recklessly before the car ploughed into a crowd of students.

    He said the car, which appeared to have had a brake failure, hit some students who got injured before running over the Chiamaka who died on the spot.

    Checks revealed that the victim who was a student of Peaceland College came to sign off one of the injured students.

    In a statement made available to Journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, by Dr Emeka Patrick Ejim, the Acting Rector of the Institution said
    the Institute sympathized with the family of the deceased and extended heartfelt condolences to all who have been affected by the sad death of the promising young girl.

    “Our prayer is that such an incident does not occur again.” He said

    
The statement stated that the school resolved that outstanding examinations be suspended forthwith.
    
It said “A three-day mourning period, Wednesday, 2nd to Friday, 3rd October, 2024 be observed by staff and students of the Institute for the repose of the soul of Chiamaka Ozoigbondu and against a recurrence of such a sad incident.

    “IMT Management collaborates with security agencies and the family of the deceased to ensure that justice is done and seen to be done in this matter. 
    
”All forms of celebration after examinations are hereby banned in the Institute. Students who wish to celebrate after their exams can do so outside IMT premises.

    “Students found celebrating within the Institute will face expulsion and no amount of pressure will make IMT to rescind it.
    
”Speed limit for all vehicles within the campus shall not exceed 20 km. Any driver found violating this rule shall be
arrested and handed over to law enforcement agents.

    “Law enforcement officers should not escort students into IMT for any reason. Their presence makes it impossible for IMT security men to control these students.
Subsequent examinations in the Institute shall be conducted under strict supervision with all the participating students wearing their departmental uniforms and identity cards.
    
“All students shall sign a code of conduct to be of good behaviour.
The use of ‘pass’ at the gate be henceforth enforced.
The two other students who got injured in the unfortunate circumstance receive appropriate medical care. “ he said.
