The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded ward-level collation in the Edo State governorship election, with local government results nearly finalized.
INEC announced that the collation of results will soon begin at the state level, with designated officials already at the collation center in Benin City or en route.
In a statement issued by Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission noted that the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal was activated immediately after the polls closed on Saturday, and polling unit results were promptly uploaded.
However, INEC expressed concern over reports of a security incident at its office in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area.

According to Haruna, a stampede occurred following a threat to the office, leading to the injury of one official. INEC also reported the presence of political actors and their supporters who staged demonstrations outside the state headquarters in Benin City ahead of the final collation.
“These actions are uncalled for. Nobody should disrupt the process at any stage, and no one will be allowed to benefit from lawlessness,” Haruna said in the statement, warning that the Commission would enforce its authority as provided by the Electoral Act 2022.
He emphasized that there are established mechanisms for addressing complaints, including the review of results declared under duress.
Haruna urged all accredited party agents, observers, and members of the media to have unimpeded access to collation centers to ensure transparency.
He further called on security agencies to maintain their vigilance and professionalism, which had contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election thus far.
As the state-level collation process begins, INEC further reiterated its commitment to a transparent and lawful conclusion to the election.
