A former Presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri says it is incredibly hypocritical for Peter Obi to criticise the Lagos State Government for the alleged deportation of homeless people to their state of origin in Osun State.

The former Labour Party’s presidential candidate had on Monday said he was deeply saddened and shocked by the recent reports of the deportation of citizens of Osun State by the Lagos State Government.

Unverified reports on Saturday indicated that several luxury buses dropped hundreds of youths at Ilesa, Osun after they were rounded up in several parts of Lagos State.

Obi, in series of tweets said this is not merely a concern for Osun State but for all Nigerians who uphold the principles of unity, fairness, and justice.

“I am deeply saddened and shocked by the recent reports of the deportation of citizens mostly of Osun State origin by Lagos State authorities. This is not merely a concern for Osun State but for all Nigerians who uphold the principles of unity, fairness, and justice.

“I find this action very distasteful because of the far-reaching effects it will have on our National cohesion and development. As a pan-Nigerian advocate, I vehemently oppose any form of discrimination, injustice, or violation of our citizens’ rights,” he said.

Reacting to this, Omokri, in a tweet, said on Thursday, August 1, 2013, Peter Obi, as Governor of Anambra State, falsely alleged that the Lagos State Government, under then Governor Tunde Fashola, had deported homeless Anambra indigenes and then proceeded to threaten to deport people of mostly Yoruba origin from Anambra.

“Additionally, on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, Mr. Obi ordered the review of the employment of all non-indigenes, including those of Southeast origin, from the Anambra State Civil Service.

“With such a record, Mr. Obi lacks the moral authority to criticise Lagos or any other state for taking action to protect their state. Especially as Lagos has employed hundreds of Anambra indigenes in her civil service. How many Lagosiams did Obi employ when he was Governor?

“This ‘Gbajue’ grandstanding and gaslighting must not be allowed to go unchallenged,” Omokri said.
