The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Jalingo local government area Dr Aminu Jauro Hassan has rehabilitated Nine township roads and built 72 lockup shops to boost the revenue of the metropolitan local government area.
Hassan, who disclosed this at the commissioning of the 72 lockup shops at the Jalingo main market on Sunday said that the shops were built through a public-private partnership arrangement.
He said that within the Eight months of his manning the Council in a caretaker capacity, he has been able to ensure a steady water supply to various communities in the local government area through the rehabilitation of boreholes and the provision of new ones.
He urged the people to collaborate with the LG for its development through the public-private partnership arrangement where private individuals are allowed to invest in development projects at the local government for their own profit as well.
“Gentlemen, I am delighted to have you all here for the commissioning of this great project. The 72 lockup shops were built through a public-private partnership under Build, Operate, and Transfer arrangement. This is aimed at giving this phase of the market a facelift and providing more opportunities for our traders.
“We have also rehabilitated Nine township roads and Fifteen boreholes repaired within the last eight months of my tenure as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Jalingo local government.
“Similarly, several youths have also been trained and empowered in various crafts and trades to reduce unemployment and redundancy. Insecurity, especially kidnapping for ransom and housebreaking has been reduced to the barest minimum as a result of improved surveillance and support from the council. We are doing all of these knowing that we must boost our revenue if we are to continue delivering dividends of democracy to our people because allocations from the federal government are consistently becoming too little,” he said.
Alhaji Gamandi Adamu, Chairman of Jalingo Market of the Nigeria Traders Association expressed appreciation for the attention being given to the market by the Aminu Jauro Hassan-led caretaker committee.
He called on the state government to consider the chairman for a higher appointment because, according to him, Aminu was the immediate past Executive Secretary of Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency was material that could continue to touch on the life of the people.
