LAGOS – Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has said that Donald Trump’s remarkable victory in the US presidential poll is a litmus test for Nigeria and the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Kalu, the National Coordinator, Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO), and CEO, ECK Foundation, in a statement made available to Sunday Independent on Saturday said it was with a deep gratitude to God and the people of America that he congratulate Donald Trump on his stunning victory following the conduct of the US Presidential election held on November 5, 2024.
Kalu, who lives both in Nigeria and U.S, said that Trump’s landmark victory and emergence as the 47th US President of non-consecutive terms, beyond reasonable doubts, confirmed his resilience and audacity as a leader destined to make America great again.

The PDP chieftain stated: “Having polled 277 votes to defeat his opponent and the outgoing Vice President (Kamala Harris), who garnered 244 votes of the 538 in the election, truly sent a shockwave to the world despite pile of criminal charges he faced and trashed ahead of his campaign.
“Today, it has become a milestone achievement in the history of American democracy, thereby replicating Grover Cleveland, who served non Conservative terms as US President.
“It is no doubt that Trump’s return to the White House will not only re-strengthen, but transform America’s economy to the height of excellence where inflation and other noticeable economic loopholes would be highly addressed.
“Border security lapses is one of the major problems the Biden administration has faced and we are vehemently optimistic that Trump’s historic comeback to White House would holistically make significant progress in addressing the situation.
“As a renowned economist, Trump, to the best of my knowledge, is capable of building trans-Atlantic and bilateral economic and trade relationships with Africa and other countries for speedy global multilateral development.

“The world building strong trade ties with America under the leadership of Trump will in no small measure redeem the lost glory of global economic advancement and then boast the expectations of the fourth industrial revolution.
“Not only these areas of attention, but also on the part of tackling international security threats, especially the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which has reportedly attracted Iranian government’s intervention, leading to attacks and counter attacks with no meaningful steps taken to quell the brazen crisis.”
Kalu, stressed that lives and properties worth billions of dollars were reported to have been lost in the heat of the regional war in the Middle East, adding that Trump’s Presidency is hoped to undertake good steps to de- escalate the crisis and bring lasting solutions for peace and harmony.
Kalu said: “Finally, the transparency, expertise and efficiency with which the American electoral umpire conducted its presidential poll demonstrated its state of maturity in upholding democratic integrity, respect for social justice, ethics and values, and respect for human rights .
“It, therefore, calls for Nigeria INEC’s reflection on its operational failures and quickly work to improve its standard in conducting elections in Nigeria.
“Permit me to categorically state that the 2023 general elections in Nigeria lost the test of integrity as the people’s votes failed to count against the cardinal principles of democracy and its values.
“However, the 2027 general elections are fast approaching and the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government is expected to consolidate actions capable of rejiging the national electoral system for efficient operations and services delivery.
“Nigerians cannot continue to condone the impunity and unhidden electoral fraud largely bedeviling the nation’s electoral processes.
“The National Assembly under the ruling party must leave no stone unturned to ensure that fair electoral legislations are made to right the wrongs and get Nigeria out of the age-long political corruption and short- changed leadership.”
