A teenager named Olawumi Ayomide (M) who was accused of setting a building in Ilorin on fire after stealing personal belongings from the inhabitants, has been convicted by a Kwara state magistrate court.
The culprit was found guilty by Magistrate M.A. Yahaya and given a one-year sentence to be served at Mandala Correctional Centre, without the possibility of fines.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, filed charges against him.
The suspect broke into Mrs. Bolatito Adebayo’s three-bedroom bungalow at No. 50, Afenifere Community, Onireke, Upper Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin South LGA, on Wednesday of last week at 12 oclock .

According to NSCDC spokesman Ayoola Michael Shola, in a statement in Ilorin, he allegedly took groceries, clothes, and other items during the invasion before setting the residential structure on fire.
After being captured at the spot, the suspect tried to distract himself from his capture by starting the fire.
Despite his attempt to escape, he was apprehended and turned over to the NSCDC for additional research and legal action.
Dr. Umar Mohammed, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, reaffirmed the command’s unrelenting assault on criminal activity in the state and pledged to protect everyone’s safety and security.
