LAGOS – The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed its dedication to participating in and emerging victorious in the forthcoming local government elections slated for September 21, 2024.
The statement is coming shortly after a high court in Abuja lifted the restraining order previously imposed on the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWAISEC.
The court’s ruling was due to the expiration of the ex parte order, which, under the law, cannot exceed 14 days.
In reaction to the situation, the spokesperson of the PDP in the state, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, stated in Ilorin, “While the main case contesting the procedures of KWASIEC is ongoing, the PDP fully abides by the court’s decision and will proceed with the elections following the law.
“We understand that the ruling party is trying to manipulate this outcome for their own agenda and deceive the public.
“It’s important to stress that the PDP has never aimed to halt the elections. We have made this clear several times.”

“Our aim is not to obstruct the elections that we have been advocating for, but we are obligated to ensure that the local government elections are conducted with freedom, fairness, transparency, and in compliance with all established regulations.”
The spokesperson mentioned that following the court’s decision, “the PDP is obliged by the ruling, and we are prepared to participate in the elections with full assurance that the people of Kwara support us.
“Nevertheless, we are fully cognizant of the strategies and statements from certain factions within the ruling party concerning their intentions to manipulate the election outcomes.”
He claimed that the party has received information about the ruling party’s plans to fabricate election results before the elections and obstruct the delivery of election materials to polling units in certain areas.
“There are even talks of pre-marked ballot papers ready to be inserted into boxes on the election day,” he further stated.
The party called on security agencies to take immediate action and enhance their surveillance around KWASIEC as the council elections draw near, emphasizing that “the credibility of our electoral system must not be compromised by the anti-democratic elements holding public office.”
The spokesperson pointed out that “although it’s evident that confidence in the credibility of KWASIEC is currently low, we urge all patriotic citizens to turn out in large numbers, cast their votes, and uphold their votes steadfastly.”
