    LAGOS – Minister of Works, Mr. Da­vid Umahi, says the Lagos -Abeokuta Expressway would be done in concrete pavement.

    He stated this during an inspection of ongoing emer­gency repairs of seven kilo­meters stretch of the road within Lagos state.

    He said the Ogun state section of the road was already being handled by Ogun state.

    According to Umahi, the concrete pavement would ad­dress the threat of water to an asphalt pavement, assur­ing that funds would soon be released for completion of repairs of the remaining eleven kilometers stretch.

    The Minister told the contractor handling the emergency repairs to con­centrate on deploying stone basement and reopen it to traffic, while asphalt can be laid by mid – November.

    He noted that due dili­gence was already in prog­ress for comprehensive re­construction of the express.

    Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller Works, Lagos, in her re­marks, appreciated the Minister for his interven­tion to bring succour to the sufferings encountered by users of the Lagos Abeoku­ta Expressway.

    In a related development, the Minister of Works has stated that the contractor handling the Sagamu to Ibadan stretch of the Lagos Ibadan expressway, risks ter­mination of appointment if he fails to return to site to complete the remaining three kilometers portion of the project, without further delay.

    Mr Umahi, made the dis­closure while addressing newsmen on the state of the project.

    He, however, explained that the contractor had al­ready been given a seven days deadline and a warn­ing letter would follow if the contractor does not comply with the fresh terms of the contract.
