A 51-year-old building contractor based in Epe, Lagos, Osamuyime Osula, has been remanded in custody for allegedly defrauding two women of N182 million.

Osula was arrested by officers from the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force following a petition filed by the victims, Onuoha Denzel Kelechi and Enoredia Oronsaye.

According to police reports, Osula collected the substantial sum from the women under the pretense of constructing a high-standard house for them in the Epe area. However, the contractor allegedly delivered a substandard building that did not justify the amount paid.

Upon receiving the petition, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, ordered the immediate arrest of Osula.

After thorough investigations led by Inspector Charles Abikoje, the contractor was charged with multiple offences, including obtaining money by false pretences, fraud, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

During the arraignment at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, Police Prosecutor Stephen Molo informed the court that the offences were committed between 2022 and 2024 in the Mojoda area of Epe.

The prosecution further alleged that Osula deceived the complainants into believing he would construct a house befitting the N182 million payment, but he delivered substandard work.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge, which includes violations of sections 314(a), 232, 287, and 168(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Chief Magistrate B.A. Sonuga granted Osula bail in the sum of N20 million, with two sureties in like amount.

The court adjourned the case and ordered that Osula be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility until he fulfills the bail conditions.
