In a bold move to address rising public concerns, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in partnership with the Lagos State Task Force, has launched an intense week-long operation to reclaim the streets from destitution, miscreants, and street begging.
The exercise, sparked by an outcry from residents, aims to eliminate environmental nuisances and bolster public safety across the bustling metropolis.
Describing the urgency of the operation, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, revealed that “This operation was driven by the overwhelming number of messages and calls from residents alarmed about security issues in their neighborhoods.
“The frequency of these complaints compelled us to act decisively, and I’m pleased to say the results so far have been remarkable.”
Since the raids commenced, a considerable number of individuals, including both adults and children, have been rescued from the streets.

Ogunlende further disclosed, “All rescued persons have been taken to our rehabilitation centres, where they are receiving the care and support they need. For the children, efforts are underway to reunite them with their families. Meanwhile, the adults will participate in empowerment programs designed to equip them with skills for a self-sufficient future.”
A female beggar arrested
The crackdown has spanned key areas of the city, including Awolowo Way, Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, and Lekki Road.
Among those apprehended were 27 individuals, 15 of whom were minors caught in unlawful street trading and begging.
The individuals will be processed in line with the law and relocated to appropriate government facilities.
The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to creating a secure and orderly environment for its residents.
