The Lagos State Government has warned operators of nightclubs on major roads against violation of the state parking law.

The General Manager of Lagos State Parking Authority, Adebisi Adelabu, gave the warning in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the monitoring and compliance exercise carried out by the agency observed that many night clubs encouraged illegal parking.

Adelabu added that this incessant act by these nightclubs has contributed to traffic gridlock and negated the government’s efforts towards improving the state’s parking culture.

She said, “The government is not ready to entertain any form of contravention of the Parking Law in the state. Hence, we will take necessary actions against erring clubs especially those situated in residential/high density on high traffic flow areas of the state.

“Some night clubs should be commended for their compliance with LASPA’s zero-tolerance mandate for indiscriminate parking but non-complying night clubs should obtain a parking permit from the authority and get alternative land for parking, because our efforts in regulating parking, is to make the roads traffic free for the comfort of all residents.”

Adelabu further stated that punitive measures will be applied on defaulting outlets which include the closing of their facilities and towing of vehicles, among other sanctions.

“LASPA plans to begin full implementation of parking policy in the year 2023 thereby we are calling on the public to embrace the parking culture and shun all forms of indiscriminate parking,” she added.
