Lagos launches Mobile App for easy registration, certification, regulation of water service providers

The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) on Tuesday launched a Mobile App to facilitate easy registration, certification and regulation of water service providers.
Speaking at the launch of the App in Ikeja, Lagos, the Executive Secretary, LASWARCO, Mrs Funke Adepoju, said the launch of the App became imperative due to the recent challenges, particularly with water quality, safety, and accessibility, which led to outbreak of cholera recently.
“This cholera outbreak, which affected many of our communities, underscored the urgent need for a robust and comprehensive approach to managing our drinking water sources and regulating activities of the service providers.
“In response, LASWARCO has embarked on a mission to review and enhance our current guidelines. This initiative aims to address the gaps identified in our sector and ensure that the production, packaging, storage, and distribution of drinking water meet the highest standards of safety, quality and assurance,” she explained.
Adepoju stated that the role of LASWARCO as one of the first line of defence against deadly pathogens and diseases could not be overlooked as its goal is to ensure health and safety were guaranteed, prevent future outbreaks, and support efforts to provide safe drinking water to all Lagos residents through the implementation of the Lagos Water Policy 2024, enforcement of regulations, and strict adherence to safe standards.
The Executive Secretary said the water service providers and consumers were at the heart of this mission as the importance of water sanitation and hygiene regulation could not be overstated, but essential to protecting public health, stressing that as a concerned regulator, the commission must ensure that every water service provider is registered and accredited and that the water provided for public consumption is clean and safe.

Adepoju urged all packaged water service providers to work closely with the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, especially in the introduction of information technology for accreditation, saying “Together, we can create an environment that benefits both private and public service providers and, most importantly, our consumers. Working together, we can set higher standards for water quality and service delivery, ensuring that Lagos remains a leader in water resource and sustainable management.”
According to her, a key part of these reforms was the adoption of information technology and software applications for registration, certification, and compliance and that embracing these technologies would streamline water processes and ensure that all providers meet the necessary accreditation, health, and safety standards.
Adepoju said the App would simplify registration and certification, making it more accessible and convenient for water service providers.
“The App allows for real-time monitoring and compliance tracking, ensuring that all packaged water meets the highest safety and quality standards. It also improves communication between providers and regulators, fostering a collaborative approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
“By adopting this online system, you not only ensure compliance with regulations but also enhance your credibility and reputation as trusted providers of safe drinking water. The streamlined process will save you time and resources, allowing you to focus on delivering high quality water to the people of Lagos. This digital transformation is a significant step forward in our mission to protect public health and improve service delivery,” she explained.
