LAGOS – In order to ensure proper monitoring of Lagos residents and boost its security status, the State Government is partnering with a private firm for data capturing of travellers entering and exiting the state.
Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner of Transportation, Lagos State disclosed this on Tuesday evening in Lagos during a media parley.
According to Osiyemi, the state has adopted a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model to gather appropriate information on residents of the state, especially those entering and exiting it.

For the effectiveness of this initiative, Osiyemi said that the State Government in conjunction with a private firm would also partner with interstate parks for fingerprints of travellers using their facilities, adding that such parks would also register with the Ministry of Transportation for authenticity and approval.
He further explained that the interstate parks would be categorized into A to C for proper identification.
The Commissioner explained that apart from enhanced security of all residents of Lagos, the initiative would also enable the government to plan appropriately for its transportation system.
He explained that the government had reached an advanced stage in this initiative and would be unveiled to the public soon.
He said: “We all know how important it is for us to be able to create a safe environment for our people. Lagos is the London of Nigeria. People Japa from different states of the country come to Lagos. And the influx of people in Lagos is alarming. If we don’t take care and take note, we might be creating a monster for ourselves.

“We are planning to ensure that we get data for people that come in and out of Lagos at our interstate parks. So, we are in partnership under a PPP arrangement whereby we want to ensure standardisation of the parks. We have the numbers of all the interstate parks across the state in the ministry and they shall be classified into Grades; A, B, C. The parks will register with the Ministry of Transport.
“What that does is that anyone that goes to that park is going to take electronic fingerprints so that we can know those coming in and out of Lagos. That will afford us so many things; one of them is planning, ensuring that our security is top notch and we can also plan on the transportation system as well. For me, the safety part is the most critical of all.”
Also, Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Transportation, at the event said that from August 1, 2024, access to trucks, tankers and other articulated vehicles into the Lekki Free Trade Zone, especially the port and Dangote Refinery would be restricted.
Giwa in his speech, said that such vehicles would require the e-call up system to carry out businesses in the area.
According to him, the ministry was carrying out effective sanitation of the axis and in alignment with the THEME Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“From August 1, all trucks, tankers and other articulated vehicles that go to the port or the Dangote refinery, must come up under our call up system.
“We have parks that have been approved and models to be followed. You cannot just go and say you are driving towards that axis for business. All the stakeholders are aware of this.”
Also at the event were Chief Executive Officers of different agencies under the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
