The Lagos State Government is planning a massive onslaught against okada riders in prohibited routes across the State.

The government said it has launched a robust campaign targeting motorcycles operating on restricted routes within the city.

It said the initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and mitigate traffic congestion.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who spoke in Ikeja, Lagos commended the recent strategic enforcement efforts led by the State Commissioner of Police and the Lagos State Task Force.

Osiyemi added that the ban on okada remained in force in 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 15 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within the metropolis.

He urged residents and commuters to refrain from using motorcycles on restricted routes, reiterating the penalties for violation which include three years imprisonment for both riders and passengers with their motorcycles impounded and publicly crushed in accordance with Section 46, sub-section 1, 2 & 3 of the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018.

The Transportation Commissioner emphasized the importance of voluntary compliance while urging the public to cooperate with government policies for their safety and well being.
