Leon Balogun has penned a contract extension with Rangers, according to reports. The veteran centre-back was due to leave Ibrox when his deal expired on May 31, but it’s now claimed the Nigerian has put pen to paper on a new agreement, which will keep him in Govan until the end of next season.
Balogun spoke after Saturday’s Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic of his desire to remain with the Light Blues, and the 35-year-old has his wish.
He returned for a second Rangers spell last summer, having followed Michael Beale to QPR when the Londoner was appointed as R’s boss.
That followed a two-year stint at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard when Beale was first-team coach. Now Balogun will remain to retain some experience in the Gers backline as Philippe Clement plots a squad overhaul, reports the Scottish Sun.
Connor Goldson has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, alongside captain James Tavernier. Borna Barisic looks set to leave in a few weeks, while there will departures in other positions as well.
