The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in all local government election seats contested on Saturday in Sokoto and Imo states, mirroring its win in Kwara state.
Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman, Chairman of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission, announced on Monday that the APC won all 23 chairmanship positions and all councilorship seats across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Fifteen political parties participated in the elections, but the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not take part. Following the declaration, the winners were issued certificates of return by Suleiman.
In Imo State, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) also declared the APC victorious in all 27 local government areas and 305 councilorship seats.
ISIEC Chairman, Charles Ejiogu revealed the results during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Owerri on Monday. Specific vote counts were not provided, but Ejiogu assured that all results would be released in due course.
The elections involved 17 of the 19 registered political parties, covering 305 electoral wards, 27 local government areas, and 4,758 polling units across the state. Ejiogu urged any aggrieved parties or individuals to pursue their complaints through the appropriate legal channels.
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all 260 political ward councillorship seats in the 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State during the council polls held on Saturday.
Prof. Christian Ngwu, the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), stated this while declaring the results on Monday in Enugu.
Ngwu said the commission delayed the announcement of the councillorship election results because it was scrutinising them.
ENSIEC had earlier on Sunday declared the PDP winner of all the 17 chairmanship positions in the state.
