Libya’s national football coach, Nasser Al-Hadiri, has revealed a 28-player squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Nigeria.

These crucial games are essential for the Mediterranean Knights, who are currently at the bottom of Group D and need to perform well to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The squad features notable players such as Ahmed Al-Masmari from Barcelona B, Abdul-Miser Abu Shaibab of Al-Ittihad, and Mohammed Al-Tabbal from Al-Nasr. Al-Hadiri has retained many experienced players who have been vital to the team, despite their recent struggles.

Libya’s roster includes a combination of domestic talents and players based abroad, showcasing the team’s depth. In addition to Al-Masmari, the squad also represents several top Libyan clubs, including Al-Ahly Benghazi, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nasr.

After the dismissal of Milutin Sredojević “Micho,” Coach Al-Hadiri took over and expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to recover. He has brought on former player Abu Bakr Al-Hark as his assistant coach and Misbah Shanqab, a former goalkeeper, as the goalkeeping coach.

The first match of this double-header is scheduled for Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria. Just four days later, Libya will host Nigeria in Benina. Currently, Nigeria leads Group D with four points, while Libya has only earned one point from their first two matches.

Libya faces a significant challenge against a determined Nigerian side, which seeks to solidify its position at the top of the group. Al-Hadiri’s team must perform at their best to overcome the threat posed by the three-time African champions.
