In a devastating turn of events, a mother has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter after her four young sons tragically perished in a fire at their Sutton home.
Deveca Rose, 30, had left her two sets of twins – Bryson and Kyson, aged four, and Leyton and Logan, aged three – alone in their Collingwood Road home on the evening of December 16, 2021. While she went shopping, a fire broke out, claiming the lives of her innocent children.
On Friday, January 24, 2025, Rose appeared at the Old Bailey where she was handed the sentence for manslaughter after the fatal blaze.
Her actions, leaving her children vulnerable and unsupervised, have been described as nothing short of negligent.
The jury found her responsible for a senseless and heartbreaking tragedy that could have been prevented.
The boys’ paternal grandmother, Kerrie, addressed the court after the verdict, expressing the immense pain and loss suffered by her family.
“Bryson, Kyson, Leyton, and Logan were cruelly taken from us in a senseless act of negligence by their mother,” she said.
“The disregard she showed towards them has echoed throughout this trial, and our family has had to endure three years of lies, delays, and false narratives.
“The toll this has taken on us cannot be overstated. These were beautiful, loving children who deserved a future, and now we are left with nothing but the memory of what they could have become.”

Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, who led the investigation, spoke out about the tragic loss of four young lives, calling it a deeply upsetting case.
“Deveca Rose placed her own self-interest above the safety of her children,” Townsend said. “Had she stayed home that night, she could have prevented the fire or at least gotten her children to safety. Instead, she fabricated a story about a babysitter, ‘Jade’, whose very existence could not be confirmed.”
The fire was discovered by a passer-by just after 7 p.m. on December 16, 2021. The blaze was so intense that despite efforts by neighbors and emergency services to rescue the children, the boys were found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom. Tragically, they could not be revived and were declared dead in the hospital.
According to Met Police, during the investigation, Rose claimed that the children were being cared for by a woman named ‘Jade’, but no such person could be found.
CCTV footage revealed no trace of this mysterious woman, and phone records confirmed Rose’s calls to ‘Jade’ were fraudulent, with the number being remarkably similar to her own.
The fire was believed to have been started either by a candle, tealight, or cigarette, while the house itself was described as unsanitary, which allowed the flames to spread rapidly.
The children, trapped inside, sought refuge in an upstairs bedroom, but the smoke ultimately overwhelmed them.
