The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in their AFCON qualifier on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, avenging a 2-1 defeat suffered three months ago in a World Cup qualifier.
Super Eagles‘ relentless pressure paid off just before halftime, as Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the second minute of added time.
Lookman weaved through defenders before curling a shot into the left corner, beating the Benin goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Victor Osimhen was introduced in the 72nd minute and made an immediate impact, doubling Nigeria’s lead in the 78th minute with a clinical finish after being set up by Wilfred Ndidi.

Lookman completed his brace in the 83rd minute, netting Nigeria’s third goal after a precise assist from Moses Simon.
The Super Eagles dominated possession with 61%, registering 14 goal attempts and five shots on target, three of which found the back of the net.
In contrast, Benin Republic managed six goal attempts and three shots on target but failed to convert.
This victory keeps Nigeria in a strong position in their AFCON qualifying campaign.
