LAGOS – The Labour Party in Rivers State has disassociated itself from claims raised by one of its leaders, Prince Favor Reuben.
Reuben claimed that the Action Peoples Party, APP, is involved in irregularities by handpicking its candidates for the upcoming October 5 local government elections without following the proper procedures.
He criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Chief of Staff, Eddison Ehie, and some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for allegedly manipulating the candidate selection process of the APP within the Government House in Port Harcourt.
He alleged that their participation amounts to anti-party actions, undermining the credibility of the election process.
In response to Reuben’s assertions, Gogo Wellington, the Labour Party Publicity Secretary in the state, advised the public to ignore any statements not officially released by the party’s State Working Committee.

During an interview with DAILY POST, Wellington stressed that the Labour Party upholds a good rapport with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), praising the commission’s professionalism.
Wellington also expressed faith in RSIEC’s capacity to supervise other political parties’ actions and ensure adherence to the law. He clarified that it is not the Labour Party’s role to address unverified claims.
“We urge the public to dismiss any statement not originating from the State Working Committee or the party’s executive council in the state.
“As a party, we have a strong partnership with RSIEC currently. RSIEC has shown professionalism in the election preparation processes.”
“So any other thing that any other person is saying is alien to us as a party, as we are working in proper coordination with the RSIEC and I believe the RSIEC has the capacity also to monitor the activities of other parties for everything to be in line with their regulations.
“So, it’s not for us to start speaking to such facts without proof,” he stated.
