Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has lauded corporate bodies for contributing to the hospital’s infrastructural renewal and renovation. This was as the hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology Ward C, renovated and equipped by Nigeria LNG (NLNG), was inaugurated recently.
Its acting chief medical director (CMD), Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, said: “LUTH is a unique institution in not only having such a catchment population but also a large highly-skilled specialised manpower that enables it to respond to a variety of health conditions and training.
“Since 1962, LUTH has contributed in no small way in the training of medical and paramedical persons and our products are found across all hospitals and healthcare facilities, both within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
“The LUTH management, led by Professor Chris Bode on January 24, 2022, signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria LNG for the renovation and full equipment of Block C of LUTH. This is part of the company’s sustainable development programme.
“I am aware that this project is among the six projects in phase one of their efforts, I want to plead that LUTH is remembered when subsequent phases of your efforts in improving facilities in our hospital begin.”
Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said NLNG had proved to be a reliable partner in the sustainable development of the healthcare system.
“We hope for more from your organisation and other similar organisations. I am delighted that NLNG has made efforts to ensure good healthcare delivery. Qualitative healthcare cannot be achieved by government alone. We solicit assistance from multinational companies,” he said.
Managing director, NLNG, Dr. Phillip Mshelbila, said the next set of inaugurations would be an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Yenagoa, Bayelsa State: “Also, an occupational therapy and neuro-modulation rehabilitation centre, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, and a Neurosurgical and Stroke Centre, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State.
“The commissioning of projects began in 2022 with the opening of a maternity centre at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagalada, and a new Intensive care unit at University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State.
“These teaching hospitals were selected in the first phase. The programme targets 12 hospitals in all.
“The NLNG Hospital Support Programme is NLNG’s national CSR initiative.
It aims to boost the healthcare delivery system in 12 federal university teaching hospitals.”
