• 21-year-old woman nabbed over alleged baby theft
An Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun has sentenced 18-year-old Anu Ojo to six years imprisonment for breaking into an office and stealing N683,000 cash.
The convict was charged with stealing, burglary, conspiracy and malicious damage.
The magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fadairo, sentenced the convict to six years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Fadairo, however, gave the convict an option to pay N50,000 as fine and also restitute the N683,000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict and others still, at large, committed the offences on May 19.
Adaraloye said the convict and his accomplices, still at large, allegedly committed the offences at about 9:00 p.m., at BHR International Ventures Limited, along Ijoko, Ota.
The prosecutor said the convict and others conspired to break into the office of the company’s accountant to steal N683,000 cash. He said they damaged the accountant’s window in the process.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 390,411,451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman, simply identified as Blessing, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly stealing a month-old baby boy.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the mother of the baby, whose name was not mentioned, reported the case at the Elere Police Division on Monday at about 2:30 p.m.
He said the mother reported that at about 7:00 a.m., on Saturday, while she was sleeping at home with her baby, Blessing allegedly stole the child and went away.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect, after stealing the child, allegedly went to a church to testify that she had given birth to the baby.
He said the suspect was later traced to the Agbotikuyo area in Agege where the baby was recovered from her.
He said investigation was ongoing.
