The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has urged society leaders and residents to champion gender equality campaigns that emphasise men’s pivotal roles in ending domestic and sexual violence.

The Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, while speaking at a cooking competition that saw men’s participation, said the role of the male gender in promoting partnership in marriages was critical.

According to a Wednesday statement, the event was held recently at Ikola Market, Ipaja, and was tagged: “Man Wey Sabi.”

Represented by Ms. Odumbo Adetoun, the DSVA boss explained that the initiative was designed to address gender stereotypes in Lagos.

She added that the cooking competition, sponsored by Power Oil Nigeria Limited, was to showcase culinary skills among men.

“The primary objective is to spread the message in a spirited manner, challenging stereotypes regarding men’s involvement in childcare and the essence of marriage partnership,” the statement read.

The Iyaloja of Ikola Market, Birikisu Lawal, appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration for ensuring that the society was conducive for both genders to thrive.

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation revealed in May that a total of 662 reports of domestic and sexual violence were received by the ministry in one year.
