The mother of the late Prince Alex Timileyin, a student at Ajayi Crowther University who was allegedly beaten to death by his peers, Princess Antonia Emiko, has been hospitalised in a coma following the death of her son.
This was disclosed by an activist from Itsekiri in the Warri Kingdom, identified as ‘Lord of Warri’, in a post on X.com on Thursday.
The activist appealed to the Oyo State government, the Oyo State Police, and Governor Seyi Makinde to ensure justice is served for Alex’s death.
He wrote, “Princess Antonia Emiko, mother of the late Prince Alex Timileyin, is in urgent need of your prayers. She lies hospitalised in a coma, overcome with unbearable pain and sorrow.
“The bond between a mother and her child is unbreakable, and her only son’s tragic loss has left her shattered.
“I also appeal to #oyostategovt, #OyoPoliceNG, and His Excellency #seyiamakinde to ensure that justice is served and those responsible for her son’s tragic death are held accountable.
“Let us rally around Princess Antonia with our thoughts and prayers, seeking comfort and strength for her in this darkest hour. May God’s grace and mercy be upon her and her family.”
This comes after 25 Ajayi Crowther University students were charged in a Chief Magistrate Court for their involvement in the death of Timileyin, a fellow student who was allegedly beaten to death by the group on university grounds.
The incident reportedly occurred last Friday evening inside a university hostel known as Shepherd Inn.
The accused allegedly attacked Timileyin after he was accused of stealing a mobile phone belonging to one of them.
The beating reportedly lasted more than 16 hours, from Friday evening to Saturday morning.
The students, aged between 18 and 34, were remanded in prison and will remain there until their trial date on July 8th, 2024.
