Pascal didn’t realise his fiancee was pregnant when they argued. She left and secretly ended the pregnancy. Later, he found out she was going to marry someone else and had aborted their baby. He was heartbroken and couldn’t understand why she did it.
“I am from Enugu State and I brought my fiancée from the village to live with me. We were dating before I left her for Lagos for greener pastures. The communication continued, and after two years, I was already working and had gotten my apartment. I invited her to Lagos because she had been threatening to leave me for another man in the village if I didn’t bring her to Lagos. She said she didn’t like long-distance relationships. And I felt she had tried, and since I have a roof over my head, I invited her over.
“When she came, I got an available job. Later I paid for her to learn hairdressing as that was what she was learning already. I wanted her to learn more and perfect her trade. When she finished learning, I got her a shop and was putting the shop together when the relationship began to fall apart. I spent over a million naira to put the shop in order, with the necessary equipment.
“I told her I wanted us to have a joint business account for the salon, and the business would have our both names on it. That was all I said, she got angry and began to abuse me. She said the shop would be in her name, and that she wanted to run the business by herself and didn’t want any joint account with me.
“I told her but we are getting married. I was thinking ahead – the future. She told me how am I sure that we were going to marry. I was shocked, because this was someone that has been living with me for more than two years in my house and our relationship was close to 6 years. I asked her, why was I investing in her if she was not going to be my wife. She said not all relationships must lead to marriage.
“I was speechless. I am not the talking type; I think more. That day I analysed her words and realized that she didn’t want to marry me. From that day I began to pay close attention to her.
“As for the shop, I refused to allow her to start until she accepted my conditions for the smooth running of the business. One day, she told me she was going back to the village but she got there and refused to return.
“I later learned she was pregnant and aborted the pregnancy. She said she didn’t want her child to have a father like me, and that she couldn’t marry me. I was heartbroken because for the six years we were together, she never missed her period. I was even beginning to doubt myself and thought I was impotent.
“As I write, she is getting married in the village. I am trying very hard to understand women. What do women want? I loved her and provided shelter for her, and even opened a business for her. Still she left me for another man.”
