At least 29 suspected bandits have been reportedly killed following airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
A spokesperson to the state governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the airstrikes were conducted in the vicinity of Bakori hills and Yartsintsiya areas of the council.
Mohammed said the airstrikes led to the death of 21 bandits by bomb fragments, eight by gunshot wounds, and that some abducted persons regained freedom in the process.
He said the daughter of the Ruwan Godiya village head who had been held captive for several months, was one of those that regained their freedom.
“According to reports, the airstrike resulted in the confirmed deaths of eight bandits by gunshot wounds and 21 by bomb fragments,” Mohammed said.
“While the details are still emerging, it is believed that the operation also disrupted criminal activities and led to the escape of multiple kidnapped victims.
“Among those who regained their freedom is the daughter of the Ruwan Godiya village head, who had been held captive for several months.
“The NAF continues to collaborate with ground forces and intelligence agencies to identify and neutralize criminal elements in the region.”
