    LAGOS – The National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) is Nigeria’s cultural Olympics, Mr. Obi Asika, the Director-General of National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has said.

    The eight days event, which kicks off on November 22 through 30, 2024 would take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    Asika in a statement to journalists over the weekend, said that NCAC had reimagined the format and was seeking to deliver a world class festival in November with the theme: ‘Connected Culture.’

    The statement insisted that Nigeria had an incredible culture, which would be on showcase for tourists and cultural ambassadors throughout the eight days period.

    Highlights of the event, according to him would include performances by superstar Nigerian artists and rising stars, standup comedians and performing troupes, a book fair as well as states competing in the Swag Show, the Dance-Off, and the Sing-Off.

    The statement added: “We will have Dambe exhibitions and masquerades and more as we bring the traditional and modern culture to one place and one city. NAFEST will be at the national stadium, at the arts village, at multiple galleries and other venues as we open up Abuja as a cultural and entertainment destination.

    “The Jollof Wars will crown the best dish, while eight galleries led by @rv_windsor will host exhibitions and panel discussions around our theme and we will celebrate our ambassadors at the NCAC Honors gala. The NCAC colloquium will feature inter-generational conversations and reflect shared heritage and culture. Get ready and come out to celebrate, connect, enjoy and participate as we bring together the best of our country to showcase the best of all our cultures.”
