LAFIA: The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), on Wednesday said it has concluded the necessary plans to hold local government elections across the 13 local government areas on Saturday, November 2, 2024, for both chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.
Recalled that on 5th October 2022, the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission conducted an election of local government chairmen in the state and on 5th October 2024 all the tenure of elected council will end respectively.
The chairman of the commission, Ayuba Wandai-Usman, who disclosed this to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, reiterated the commission’s commitment to continue to partner with the media in their collective effort to further entrench the democratic process in the state and the country at large.
recalled that the commission was served with a court order restraining them from conducting an election following a summons by the Federal High Court, Lafia in a matter filed by one Paul A. John and 12 others against the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and the Nasarawa state Nasarawa State Local Government Election Law, 2018 and sections 3j, 3k, and 9 of the Local Government Councils Elections Guidelines, 2024.

According to him, “Chairmanship and councillorship election holds Saturday 2nd November, 2024.”
The place of delivery of nomination forms for the elective offices would be at the commission’s headquarters, Democracy house,” said.
The chairman of the commission who said a timeline of activities of the election has been released, explained that the conduct of party primaries is based on the resolution of disputes arising from the primaries slated for Friday 11, to Thursday, October 2024.
He, however, added that the commencement of the campaign by political parties, Friday 18, October 2024 for both chairmanship and councilorship elections, noting that the publication of the final list of nomination candidates is slated for Tuesday 29, October 2024.
The NASIEC boss, however appeal to the citizens of the state to support the commission in the discharge of its statutory mandate by coming out enmasse to participate in the forthcoming LGA elections to conduct themselves lawfully, responsible and orderly.
