Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on all stakeholders in national development to take ownership of their responsibilities and actively contribute to Nigeria’s growth during the 2024 Annual Directors Conference.
Themed “Business Meets Government Dinner,” the event took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized that the greatness of Nigeria relies on collective effort and accountability.
He urged attendees to focus on what they can do within their spheres of influence instead of complaining about others, stating, “You just clean your environment, because if we all clean our environment, this country will be great.”
He highlighted the significance of family units in shaping the nation’s future, asserting that without strong family values, the country cannot achieve its desired progress.
“If we all clear our corridor, this country will be great again,” he added, underlining the need for personal accountability and initiative.

Discussing the role of infrastructure in national development, Sanwo-Olu remarked that while Nigeria’s infrastructure is on par with other African nations, accountability and consistent policy implementation are critical challenges that need addressing.
The event’s President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Tijjani M. Borodo, stressed the importance of aligning government and business visions to tackle issues such as policy inconsistencies and infrastructure deficits.
He noted that effective collaboration is essential for navigating the complexities of economic recovery and development, stating, “Creating a Nigeria where businesses thrive and citizens enjoy a higher quality of life should be our shared vision.”
Borodo emphasized the need for public-private partnerships (PPPs) as a successful model seen in other countries, advocating for deeper commitments to such collaborations to drive transformation in Nigeria.
In his welcome address, Dr. Fatumata Coker, Chairman of the National Organising Committee for the conference, noted the event as a networking opportunity for business leaders and policymakers.
He encouraged participants to leverage the platform for meaningful exchanges, stating, “Tonight presents a unique opportunity for direct engagement – a space where ideas, insights, and solutions can be exchanged.”
