The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, has called on the people of the State to distance themselves from “any needless protest”.
The warning is coming few hours to the planned nationwide strike.
The CP who gave the warning in a statement released late Monday night by the Command’s spokesman, SP Moses Joel Yamu, noted that the “Command is aware of plans by some elements to stage a protest on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day”.
The statement disclosed that the CP had earlier met with coalition of civil society organizations and other stakeholders in the State, where he acknowledged the peaceful conduct exhibited during the last #EndBadGovernance protest.

Iwo while emphasizing the right of citizens to a peaceful protest, warned that any attempt by miscreants/hoodlums to hijack and engage in the destruction of lives and property or to inflict unnecessary hardship on road users or cause any form of disorderliness in any part of the State will be promptly resisted by officers and men of the Command.
He further reaffirmed the dedication and commitment of the Command in ensuring the maintenance of law and order in the State.
The CP also encouraged all residents of the State not to entertain any fear as they go about their normal daily activities.
