The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expressed willingness to offer palliatives to victims of the tanker fire disaster that resulted in the death of five persons including a pregnant woman.
The Commission through its Rivers State representative, Tony Okocha, sympathised with the victims and bereaved families, urging Nigerians to ‘cultivate patient as a virtue’ considering that the carnage occurred following two truck drivers jostling for space on the deplorable road .
Okocha, yesterday, said: “The Governing Board of NDDC, in the last meeting that we held, gave a directive that we should visit the victims and the scene of incident. We are committed to seeing how we can help them get up from the grounds again.”
He disclosed that the commission would offer assistance with a sense of urgency considering the current economic realities in the country.
Having seen the impacts and degree of the losses from the tanker inferno, Okocha promised to generate a memo to advise the commission on how to assist the victims, which, according to him, will comprise physical cash and palliatives.
He also inspected a community project being handled by NDDC at Nkpolu in Rumuigbo Obio-Akpor Local Council of the state, assuring speedy take-off and completion to serve and improve the standard of living of people.
Okocha, who is also the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of All Progressives Congress (APC) condoled the victims and their families.
