Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has set his sights on avenging Nigeria’s recent loss to Benin Republic as the two teams prepare to face off on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The Cheetahs stunned Nigeria with a 2-1 victory during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, a defeat that contributed to the resignation of former Super Eagles manager Finidi George.
Reflecting on that setback, Ndidi, who plays for Leicester City, expressed his disappointment and revealed the team’s determination to make amends.
“We as players, we know what we did the last time was really bad. The game was really bad so it’s just what we are planning to do now to make everything right because everyone was disappointed in the first game,” Ndid told reporters.
The Leicester City star insisted that the team is not feeling the pressure ahead of the match, emphasizing their readiness to take on Benin Republic.
“But there is no pressure to be honest because we know what we want to do. We know how we want to approach the game.
“We know mentally we are ready; we know physically we’re ready and fit to actually approach these games.”
Under the guidance of head coach Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles began their preparations on Tuesday evening, with nearly the entire squad in attendance.
With the arrival of star striker Victor Osimhen on Thursday evening, the Super Eagles’ preparations are expected to be at the final stage.
The Super Eagles will host Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7, before traveling to Kigali to face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday, September 10, in their next AFCON qualifying encounter.
