ABUJA – The Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party has thrown its weight behind Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, and Okoli Akrika-led state executive.
The National body has also endorsed the position of the Anambra executive on staying away from the forthcoming local government election in the state as the process violates the Electoral Act.
In a statement signed by the interim National Coordinator of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, the National Leadership of the Party said it was “aware and is in total support of the position of Labour Party in Anambra State led by Chief Ugochukwu Emeh (Chairman) and Okoli Akirika (Secretary) among others.

It pointed out that the party is further aware that the Labour Party is already in Court challenging the procedure for the proposed LGA election, as it revealed that the party “never sponsored any Candidate to contest the questioned Anambra State LGA election.”
The statement went on to state that the “National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party hereby confirms that we have not constituted any Caretaker Committee in any state of the Federation including Anambra State and that our Party in Anambra State is presently led by Chief Ugochukwu Emeh (Chairman) and Okoli Akirika Esq as Secretary.
Recall that the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, had led a stakeholders summit in Abia aimed at resolving the crisis in the party.
The summit, standing on the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the tenure of the Barr. Julius Abure led National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the same and set up a caretaker Committee to midwife the reconciliation and rebuilding process of the party amid resistance by the Abure faction.
