The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced Justin Magudu as the interim head coach of the Super Falcons after the departure of Randy Waldrum, the team’s former American coach. Waldrum’s exit comes in the wake of the Super Falcons’ disappointing elimination from the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

Waldrum, who took over the Super Falcons in 2020, did not secure any major trophies during his tenure. However, the team gained international recognition after an impressive run in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, earning the title of CAF’s Women’s Team of the Year.

In a statement released by the NFF’s communication department, Magudu’s appointment was confirmed as part of the federation’s efforts to stabilize the team ahead of upcoming international competitions. Magudu, a former coach of Adamawa United, is expected to bring new energy and direction to the Super Falcons.

Waldrum’s time as head coach was marred by ongoing disputes with the NFF over unpaid salaries, which reportedly played a role in his departure following the team’s failed Olympic campaign.

Magudu is no stranger to the Super Falcons. Earlier this year, during Waldrum’s absence, he temporarily led the team to a convincing 4-0 victory over Ethiopia in a critical Olympic qualifier held at the Abuja Stadium. Now, as interim coach, Magudu will look to build on that success and revitalize the team.

With fresh leadership in place, Magudu’s immediate task will be to guide the Super Falcons through their upcoming matches and reignite their form for future competitions.
