Abuja: The Niger State Government continues to expand its partnership with Kent State University in the United States, opening up new opportunities for higher education, developmental interventions, business, and investment.

This collaboration also extends to the Ohio Department of Development, enhancing ties between Niger State and Ohio.

Leading the Niger State delegation was the Hon. Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Mustapha Ndajiwo, alongside key officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, the Special Adviser on Social Investment, Hauwa Bako, and Abdulakeem Oshinuga, Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs.

The delegation held strategic meetings with representatives from Kent State University’s Office of Global Education, the Department of Administration, and the Ohio Governor’s Office, culminating in a significant session with Kent State’s Provost.

In a key milestone of the visit, Hon. Mustapha Ndajiwo, on behalf of the Niger State Government, signed a Letter of Intent with Kent State University’s Provost.

This agreement builds on a Global Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, aiming to execute targeted initiatives in the partnership’s pilot phase.

One of the flagship projects resulting from this partnership is the establishment of a new center at Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna.

The center, which is set to be launched soon, will serve as a hub for a variety of programs aimed at expanding access to international-standard education in Niger State.

A key feature of this collaboration is a two-plus-two degree initiative, allowing undergraduate students from Niger State to complete the first two years of their studies in Nigeria before transferring to Kent State for the remaining two years, with tuition costs reduced by half. Students will also have the option to study fully online, earning either a U.S. degree or a dual degree accredited by both Nigerian and U.S. institutions.

Further areas of collaboration include exchange programs for students and lecturers, executive leadership programs, and specialized studies in fields such as aviation, vocational skills development, fashion, and sports.

The partnership also seeks to unlock investment opportunities through Ohio’s business community.
