Nigerian drug trafficker, Okafor Ifeanyi Anthony, has excreted 76 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.267 kilogrammes after his arrest by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.

Okafor, a 38-year-old drug mule, was apprehended on Sunday, 15th September 2024, while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight en route to Iran via Doha.

The NDLEA, acting on intelligence, intercepted Okafor during routine checks, suspecting he had ingested illegal substances.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed that Okafor had swallowed 76 wraps of cocaine before his departure.

Upon his arrest, the suspect was placed under excretion observation. After three days in custody, Okafor excreted all 76 pellets of the ingested cocaine, with a total weight of 1.267 kilogrammes.

The arrest at MAKIA adds to a string of successful drug interceptions by NDLEA across the country.

Babafemi further revealed that NDLEA operatives in Kogi State, on Tuesday, 17th September, recovered 700,000 pills of exol-5, a highly abused stimulant, along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway.

The pills, which originated from Lagos, were bound for distribution in Kano and Kaduna.

In a related development, NDLEA agents on Friday, 20th September, arrested Udemefuna Chibuike, 23, on the Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State.

Chibuike was found in possession of a significant quantity of illegal drugs, including 49,000 tablets of tramadol, 20,000 tablets of diazepam, 100 ampoules of tramadol injection, and 50 bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup.

Babafemi also reported the arrest of a wanted suspect, Jonathan Ali Abuttur, 46, in Plateau State on Friday, 20th September.

Abuttur was caught with 808 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, concealed in 68 bags of sugar and fertilizer, in the Agingi-Rukuba area of Bassa Local Government Area. Simultaneously, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State arrested Shaibu Musa, found in possession of 28 kilograms of cannabis.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their dedication and operational successes, praising their dual approach to reducing both the supply and demand of illicit drugs.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free society.
