Nigerian gets UK cyber diversity award
A recipient of the UK government-funded Chevening Scholarship from Nigeria, Jonathan Ayodele, has won the prestigious UK Cyber Diversity Awards 2024.
The Cyber Diversity Awards aim to celebrate and honor organisations and individuals who actively promote diversity and inclusivity within the United Kingdom cybersecurity sector.
The award celebrates Ayodele’s outstanding efforts in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the cybersecurity sector in the United Kingdom.
A statement made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday said that his award for the Cyber Diversity Awards was a testament to his dedication to creating a more inclusive and diverse environment in the UK cybersecurity landscape.
It read, “Throughout his time at Cardiff University, Jonathan Ayodele has been a trailblazer. His work has not only made Nigerians abroad and home proud but has also shown the world the talent and dedication that young Nigerians bring to the table. As a UK STEM ambassador, Ayodele has been instrumental in inspiring the next generation of STEM enthusiasts, particularly focusing on championing opportunities for underrepresented groups in STEM subjects. His involvement with the CyberFirstWales, an initiative of the UK’s National Cyber Security Center further demonstrates his commitment to breaking down barriers and creating pathways for black individuals, in cybersecurity.
“His impact extended beyond borders during Black History Month in October 2023. As a key member of the Cardiff University Black History Month working group. His project highlighting black female tech pioneers and contemporaries in cybersecurity, proudly displayed in the university’s computer science building, has served as a source of inspiration for young black students pursuing careers in technology.”
Ayodele expressed gratitude for the award, stating, “It is a tremendous honor to be recognised for the work I have done in promoting diversity and inclusivity in the cybersecurity sector in the UK. This nomination is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective efforts of young Nigerians striving to make a positive impact on the global stage.”
