The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has seized 72 bags of cannabis sativa in the Elegushi area of Lekki, Lagos State, as announced by Commander Commodore Rafiu Oladejo.

The interception occurred on June 5 and was part of the Navy’s ongoing Operation Water Guard.

Each bag, weighing 40 kilograms, was intercepted through the efforts of NNS BEECROFT’s Quick Response Team and supported by the Deep Blue Assets of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Oladejo stated that the successful operation was enabled by actionable intelligence and sustained presence in Lagos waterways, aligning with Operation Water Guard’s principles.

Emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to combatting illicit drug use among youth and safeguarding national security, Oladejo warned perpetrators to cease such activities.

He revealed that these efforts were in line with directives from Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla to maintain vigilant presence along Lagos waterways to combat crime.

The intercepted cannabis sativa has been handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Marine Command for further investigation.
