In a major policy shift,  Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially scrapped the work-from-home initiative for public servants, signaling the end of remote work in the state’s civil service.

The directive, set to take effect from March 31, 2025, mandates all government employees to fully return to their offices.

The decision follows the implementation of the new minimum wage and other welfare improvements aimed at boosting productivity in the public sector.

The state government, in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, urged civil servants to rededicate themselves to their duties and enhance service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Agoro said the work-from-home initiative, which had been in place since February 2024, was originally introduced as a flexible work arrangement.

However, he said with the latest directive, all remote work privileges would be revoked, and employees are expected to resume full physical attendance.

Agoro stated that Accounting officers across various MDAs had been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the governor’s directive, as the administration pushed for greater efficiency in governance.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to a more hands-on and performance-driven civil service, emphasizing that the era of remote work is officially over.
