Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has reassured fans that the recent disagreement between his assistant coaches, Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, has not affected their professional relationship.

This clarification comes after a public spat between the two coaches following a match between Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers, which Remo Stars won 2-1.

The tension began when Ilechukwu criticized Ogunmodede’s conduct during the match. In response, Ogunmodede suggested that Ilechukwu’s frustration stemmed from the nature of the defeat. This public exchange raised concerns among football fans, as both coaches are expected to work together for Nigeria’s national team.

Eguavoen stepped in to calm the situation, stating that there is no lingering issue between the two coaches. To back up his statement, he shared a video showing Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu hugging, emphasizing their good relationship.

He also noted that such tensions are common in competitive sports and assured fans that both coaches remain focused on their duties for the Nigerian national team.

“Ilechukwu came in after Rangers’ game, and Ogunmodede came in too. They hugged each other. There’s no fight between them. It’s normal for teams to clash and have rising tensions, but that’s just part of the game. We’re here to do a job for Nigeria,” Eguavoen explained.

Eguavoen’s comments have provided relief to many fans, especially as the Super Eagles prepare for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya. The first leg of the two-match series will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, October 11, at 5 p.m.
