The North West Governors Forum, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is set to host the maiden edition of the North West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State.
The two-day summit, with partnership from the Media Trust Group, owners of Daily Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio and other titles, will hold on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to deliver the keynote address, making it his first official visit to the state since taking the oath of office in May, last year.
While in Katsina, the president will also commission the state-of-the-art 16-bed dialysis centre at the General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital built by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
He will also perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the new Katsina Eastern Bypass that spans from Dutsinma Road to Kano Road, passing through Daura Road and ending in Yandaki village in Kaita LGA.
Daily Trust reports that the landmark summit aims to address the pressing security challenges facing the region, including banditry, terrorism and communal conflicts.
Dr Bala Salisu Zango, the Commissioner for Information and Culture in Katsina, explained that the summit would bring together stakeholders and experts, including governors from the North West and key other partners, to discuss and find solutions to restore peace and stability to the area.
The event, themed: “Regional Cooperation for Securing Lives and Livelihoods,” seeks to promote peace and stability, strengthen cooperation among state governments and explore sustainable approaches to advancing food security and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
A key outcome of the summit will be the development of the Northwest Peace and Security Development Framework, a document outlining strategies, policies and actions needed to enhance regional cooperation.
