The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has announced N3 billion support to Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) in Borno State affected by the last week massive floods.
NEDC Managing Director, Dr Mohammed Alkali who announced the intervention on Tuesday during a visit to the governor, said it was meant to help affected return SMEs to economic activity.
“The NEDC board has approved the sum of N3 billion to be distributed to Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs),” Alkali said.
He noted that the floodings have disrupted economic base and activity of thousands of people particularly small and medium businesses.
He said NEDC also resolved to reconstruct and rehabilitate affected facilities in the state. These interventions according to NEDC head, include cleaning of the towns, “issue of water, sanitation and hygiene.”
The NEDC equally rolled out 10,000 bags of rice, other foods and non foods support to help thousands of people displaced and affected by the flood disaster.
Gov Babagana Zulum commended the commission for its interventions in the state
He however complained that the commission officials were not visible in Maiduguri, the state capital worst hit by the floods, amid the devastation last week.
