English Premier League side Nottingham Forest are eager to secure the long-term future of Nigerian defender Ola Aina, hoping to keep him at the club beyond next summer.

Aina, 27, joined Nottingham Forest on a free transfer from Italian club Torino before the start of the 2022/2023 season. He initially signed a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

After a solid first season, the club exercised the option to extend his deal in May. Aina impressed the Forest management with his versatility, playing across multiple defensive positions.

This season, Aina has become a regular starter for manager Nuno Espirito Santo. He has started in all four of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League matches, including a standout performance against Liverpool at Anfield, earning praise from fans and pundits alike.

According to Sports Witness, Nottingham Forest are preparing to offer Aina a new, longer-term contract to ensure he remains with the club. The Nigerian defender, who has 40 caps for the Super Eagles, is in the final year of his current deal and can begin negotiations with other clubs in January when the transfer window opens.

With Aina being one of Forest’s top full-backs, the club is eager to avoid losing him for free. They plan to initiate contract discussions soon, although Aina’s position on extending his stay at City Ground remains uncertain. Since joining the club, he has made 26 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Nottingham Forest are currently unbeaten in the Premier League, having won two games and drawn two, placing them 7th on the league table.
