The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has swiftly served judgement in the botched Oriental Derby between Enugu Rangers and rival Enyimba International of Aba
In a statement last night, the NPFL said both Rangers and Enyimba breached its framework and rules in the week 35 match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu that was abandoned in added minutes after the referee awarded penalty to Rangers.
While the maximum three points were awarded to Rangers because the visiting team was considered to have abandoned the game, the hosts, Flying Antelopes incured the wrath of the league body for inadequate security and encroachment into the pitch by their fans.
Thus while Rangers were fined N5 million for various offences, including non provision of adequate security, encroachment on to the pitch by fans and other unauthorized persons as well as sales of tickets to spectators more than the stadium capacity leading to encroachment of the pitch, Enyimba aside losing the match by three points and three goals, will have to pay a fine of N10 million for breaching the frameworks.
Both clubs have 48 hours to appeal the decision.
With this, Rangers International remain on top of the league table with 64 points from 35 matches while Enyimba and Remo Stars are in second and third positions with 59 points each.
