The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has arrested 12 suspects involved in various illegal activities, including oil bunkering, illegal mining, vandalism, and theft. The arrests were made in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, according to the State Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye, who spoke to journalists on Thursday in Akure.

Ibiloye highlighted the NSCDC’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, ensuring that criminal activities do not go unchecked. Among those arrested, three were caught engaging in illegal oil bunkering, five were involved in illegal mining, three were apprehended for stealing, and one suspect was arrested for vandalizing a national asset—a transformer.

Since taking charge in January 2024, Ibiloye noted that the command had already secured the conviction of 10 criminals and that the latest suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

He detailed the specific cases, stating, “We arrested three individuals involved in illegal oil bunkering and recovered a Toyota Sienna car, marked AKR 876 NP, which was carrying 1,200 litres of illegally refined diesel (AGO).”

Additionally, five suspects were apprehended on September 3, 2024, at the Ogunlepa mining site in Odigbo Local Government. The authorities also seized mining equipment, including three lyster engines, grinding machines, and metal plates.

Two individuals were arrested for burglary and theft, while a 20-year-old man was caught buying and receiving stolen goods. Another suspect, a 35-year-old man, was arrested in Ore with three sacks of 33KVA aluminium cables hidden in a commercial vehicle bound for Lagos.

Ibiloye called on the public to assist security agencies by providing timely and useful information to help rid the state of criminal activities.
