Authority of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State has issued a disclaimer notice linking the university campus with the leader of the planned shutdown protest.

In a circular no OAUSTECH/REG/CIRO12/VOL.2/484 of September 5, 2024 titled: ‘Important Clarifications’, the management stated that the university is not a base for the office of the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Just as it stated that one Henry Okunomo Adewumi, the alleged leader of the planned protest, is no longer a student of the institution, having graduated from the school.

The circular signed by the Registrar, Abiodun P . Okunniga, stated that the office of NANS Senate President is not on their campus.

“We unequivocally deny any endorsement or support for the purported shutdown scheduled for September 15, 2024 and hereby distance ourselves from Okunomo’s activities,” the statement read in part.

“NANS Senate President does not have any office or representation within our institution. The address cited in the letter does not exist within our institution.

“Our students are currently on break, as the 2023/2024 Academic Session ended in August 2024, and the university is officially closed.

The institution warned “Any individual using OAUSTECH’S name or address for unauthorized activities will be reported to law enforcement agencies for necessary action.”

The university also faulted the use of its premises and address as where the office of the Senate President of NANS is located.

It added that students of the university are currently on break having concluded their academic year.

It called on the general public to disregard any statement linking it with the call for protest.

Recall that Okunomo was alleged to have issued a press release after the federal government hiked the price of petrol, saying his group would shutdown the country if the price hike was not reversed.
